Long out of print, Simple Heraldry: Cheerfully Illustrated (Moncreiffe and Pottinger) is the best book I have found to give to someone as an introduction to the fine science and art of heraldry.

It almost looks like a children's book and indeed could be enjoyed by children, but for adults as well it offers a basic and thorough intruction that won't bog down the newly interested/5(22).

This book is brilliantly succinct and well laid out. A master work of simplicity and informativeness, it is helpfully and humourously illustrated. While by no means a comprehensive look at UK based heraldry it is an excellent starting point for those interested in the topic/5.
